What is Productivity?
Considering that this post is “all about productivity” I thought it might be useful to review the definition of the word productivity and set some direction about how it relates to these posts. The most common definition states that Productivity is a measure relating a quantity of output to the inputs required to produce. So we could say that a person taking 60 minutes to produce 10 widgets is being productive at a rate of 6 minutes per widget. This may be the base rate and to improve productivity the person either needs to increase the output or decrease the input. When I think of productivity this is my focus…..How can I change the relationship between input and output in a positive way?
I don’t want to just “Do Things” ( this is just being productive), I want to do things better and either increasethe output with the same input or reduce the input and get the same output.
Increasing/improving productivity is not only about making widgets in a factory but relates to all tasks that are performed across the entire work and personal spectrum. If you can deal with 40 emails a day instead of 30 then you have made a productivity improvement! So in my posts to follow I will be mixing in topics relating to improving productivity either in the workshop, in the office or at home when you just want do it better, faster , quicker and slicker to give you more time to do the things you love.
Till my next post….
Save some time, then spend it doing the things you love!
